Filtered Morning Light

On a recent trip to Greenbrier Cove I was looking more at the light and its effects on rocks, trees, moss and distance. This was a spot that I explored far off the road and found quite by accident. I was looking at the great piles of rocks in the creek and noticing the colors and the way the distance became hazy and light. As I stumbled along looking for good footing I saw the moss lit up beneath my feet. Suddenly the creek was a secondary player and the light falling on the moss and the reflective pool became my focus. I attacked this canvas in a darkly geometric way to get the composition to where I wanted it and then painted in with the effects of the light in mind.
