Winter Light on Rocks, 2008
oil on canvas, 16" x 20"
I came across these great rocks in Greenbrier Cove in Tennessee. They were back up a stream into the woods where there is this big collection of massive rocks. I have painted another of these giants along the stream (Big Rock in the Woods) that was right near these. The difference between the two is the time of year, in Big Rock I painted a view with the leaves on the trees and the creekbottom was deep in the shade. This is a late Winter scene where the light in the woods is clear and crisp. Cold in the shade, but comfortable on the rock in the sun where I took a needed break from my hike.
