Leaning Birch

Leaning Birch, 2006

oil on canvas, 18" x 20"

private collection

I walked the length of a creek near here that was part of a new subdivision. I like exploring land in new subdivisions because I can get back into places I couldn't otherwise and hopefully see them before they are destroyed. This area wasn't being developed fortunately and had lots of nice trees and bends and views that changed as it wound around the creekbottom. This was a spot that I came back to see at different times of day as the light changed. This view was from an evening that I was there and the place really grabbed my attention as the sun hit the water and the big old River Birch leaned over the bank.
