Light Around the Bend, 2009
oil on canvas, 20" x 16"
I love the light when you are in the woods. There are all sorts of things to see; the sun bouncing off of wet rocks, being effected by colors of leaves, and spotlights in unexpected places. Deep in the mountain woods and the Rhododendrons are thick and the rocks and trunks of trees are wet it can get very dark. A spot of sunlight can be a welcome sight, a place to seek out for a break. Tate City can get this way when it rains, the tree canopy can seem to close in and the place can seem darker than you might think it would get. In those times seeing this kind of spot of sunlight can be like a beacon.
