Morning Cedars, 2004
private collection
I just finished this piece as a commission for a friend who encouraged me to make a window based on a painting of mine. Having normally made windows with abstract or symbolic designs, it seemed like a tough challenge. As a painter, I am turned off by windows trying to depict space and distance as well as atmosphere and light effects, feeling the flattening of space with the lead lines and single color glass just wasn't suited to it. I took this window on and pushed myself through the doubts I had and came away with a mix of abstraction and my painterly ideas about light. As with so many things I create in the studio, I was surprised at the results.
