Stream and Log
Stream and Log

There is a spot where you can cross the stream down deep in the woods of the Kalamazoo Nature Center and go up the other side to the gravel pits and see the whole Kalamazoo Valley. It's really a great spot down at the stream, things are cool and the winds bow the canopy overhead. Everything seems tall there as the hills rise on either side of you as you go down the path. As I painted this piece I kept thinking of how I could represent the wind and the height of the woods as well as the coolness of the stream. As I made the circular marks in the foliage overhead it seemed to make perfect sense as the wind and light in the canopy was full of activity and the life down below was a much darker and more peaceful place.
