Maples in the Woods
Maples in the Woods
oil on canvas board
18" x 24"
2019

The Maples are thick in my sister's woods. I walk through the trees looking at the light of Northern Michigan and see colors that are different from Georgia woods. The canopy in my native woods has a different texture, color, and light than the woods I walk every day. Capturing that is always a challenge when I only get to see those sights once a year for a few days, but I feel like it pulls on my memory to paint it. As with most paintings I stop when I feel like the paint recreates some feeling of what drew me to paint in the first place. Here in Georgia, but there in Michigan, sits my painting on the studio wall.
