This small painting began as a sort of sketch. It started off as a detail of a couple of other paintings I've done of the particular field (and continue to do) and highlighted a small part of those other images. I continued working on it as I do with all of my other work, and the image grew into its own. I used to paint small paintings much more often, and really love the intimacy they provide. The act of painting and of looking at the work becomes an increasingly smaller range, sometimes with your nose almost touching the work. There's something special about losing yourself in such a small piece, and it always amazes me how large a space can be created in just a few inches.
