It was a dark, foggy morning on Monhegan and I explored the headlands in search of subjects. When I started this drawing there was a gloomy fog settled over the view. I was situated as far down toward the edge of the water as I could get with waves crashing near me. I worked there for a couple of hours but the last half hour or so were the challenge. The sun had broken out and changed the entire scene, so I was especially happy to have drawn in the sky early on, since it was the mood I was after when I started.
