The Tate City area and the headwaters of the Tallulah River are a favorite spot of mine. I love the huge rocks and the rushing water, the intimacy of the little dirt road running right along the edge. I have found myself drawn to this place after a good rain as well, seeing the water high and heavy, flowing over the tops of rocks that I know are under there. It seems especially treacherous when you combine the wet rocks and the churning water at your feet, as one wrong move could easily kill you if you got tossed into it. Still, the power of the water and weather makes for a great subject to paint. And this day didn't disappoint.
