2019
An early morning hike along Moccasin Creek gave me a chance to get a few glimpses of the low angle of morning sun on the water. I was hiking with Josy, exploring the trail up to Hemlock Falls and venturing off into areas where we could see the water. It was higher than usual from all of the recent rain, but not raging anymore, that was last week. I did a small sketch painting to give to Josy, and then worked on this larger version for several weeks. The great rushing foam of water in the foreground was my anchor, but I wanted to show the subtlety of the light only peeking through the woods in isolated places, and the cool green of the creek bottom.
