2022
I painted this after having taken a hike to the nearby Oconee River at Tallassee Shoals one morning. As we rested on the edge of the river and explored a bit, I was taking note of the shadows across the surface of the water when I saw this particular rock catching the sunlight. We had a lot of rain which makes the river more red clay colored than usual and the shadows made such a rich color, and the rock really grounded the scene for me. It was one of those moments that I knew a painting was going to come from, though this took me a very long time to get there.
