2007
I had seen this tree in the woods on several walks and have sketched it and taken photos of it more than once, so when I took the easel and oil pastels there one afternoon when it was warm enough to work outdoors without much problem I did. The Winter colors, the grey sky and leafy ground together with the greys and greens of the trees, were something I was concentrating on. The form of the fallen tree was a joy to draw through the tangle of woods and all their strong vertical lines. When I brought it back into the studio I felt I had captured not only the colors in their heightened way but the cold feeling of the forlorn woods in Winter.
