I am endlessly watching my trail, the woods, and what I can see of my surrounding field. The curves I built into the trail have become more and more relevant to my work, their winding shapes a contrast to the straight lines of the trees. The trails continue to sink into the forest floor and in that they gather rain and form puddles, which in turn add another piece to the picture. This is a curve that I have been watching for several weeks as I walk in the early mornings. I kept modifying it as I painted it, after having seen the latest, greatest moment on the trail. I finally settled on a damp, foggy morning that just seemed the most engaging for stopping on the walk, and staring at the view, memorizing it for the next time I was in the studio.
