This painting was what I worked on during the first few months of staying at home during the pandemic. A commission piece for a friend, it is the largest thing I've painted in years. Getting my groove at such a scale was relatively easy as I worked the image from the distance to the near areas. It moved at a nice pace, but the final push came quickly, the morning light only hitting the sandy soil and growth in the foreground here and there, the large trees happening rapidly. It was really nice to expand my scale, and give this big stretch of South Georgia Longleaf pines a lot of room.
