On a walk one evening around sunset we marveled at the way everything had an orange tint to it. Everything was tinted, not like that greenish storm color, but just orange. When we came out of the woods and entered the field we saw this crazy orange cloud, piled high and shining in an unreal hue. In my mind I could see this painting instantly, with colors that came close to something I'd see Egon Schiele use somewhere. I started a sketch soon afterwards and moved into the larger work before I had gotten halfway through with the sketch, it just seemed so obvious to me how to lay it out and paint it. Leaving some pencil lines visible through the clouds was just an oversight, the color and light was so close to exactly where I wanted them.
