2021
I bicycled down the road on a bright, beautiful spring afternoon. Not my usual time of day to find a subject to paint, I was just out to draw. I pulled up to this cluster of pines and was struck by the light. I got out my chair, a snack, and proceeded to draw for a good while. I turned out some nice sketches and finished drawing this view which stuck with me back in the studio. The simplicity and icon-like frontal view felt like it really honored the trees, so I started a painting, not knowing where it might lead me. I'm glad I did.
