I drive past a hay field every weekday morning on the way to work, and at certain times of the year I see wonderful sunrise light raking the field and coming through hay bales, trees, and creating beautiful shadows. I have worked on several images of this field through the years and this is my latest attempt. A quick look gave me a chance to see a spotlight of sunrise blasting between the trees. I developed a scratchy style of brushwork that I started using while sketching it in and kept that feel throughout the painting process. I liked that it gave it a more ethereal feeling, one more like a glance than a detailed studying of the scene.
