There is a corner of the back yard just before you go uphill and enter the woods that caught my eye at first dark. I was seeing several things around me that I wanted to work with as the colors faded into darkness. This view and the process of getting to the image took a while to develop. Somewhere in the midst of it I made edits in charcoal and conte and decided they ought to remain visible. I think the process of painting and creating an image out of nothing is worth leaving a slightly open door to sometimes. I feel like I'll be thinking along these lines for a good while yet, as more and more I see the value to a more openly constructed painting.
