Melting Snow
Melting Snow

We had snow twice this winter, unusual for Athens, and I took advantage of it as I could. I took several walks and lots of pictures, and started two paintings before the snows were completely gone. This one was a last attempt to catch some of the remaining snow that was in the shady areas of our woods. The stump was in the sunlight, fallen trees all around. There was something so moving about the color and sunlight of the winter woods that just had me captivated. Honestly, I never thought I would be able to pull this image off, to recreate what I felt when I was tromping around the woods that day. That last little bit of snow holding on for another day as it melted all around me.
