This image began as a photo from a family kayaking trip on Tallulah Lake. I spent months working and re-working every aspect of it, rethinking the design and changing the depth of the sunset effects. There were a few points where I almost scrubbed it off and started something new, and I almost cropped off nearly half the canvas. But I kept going and eventually landed on some really satisfying ideas. It was a lot of hard work, but boy when you hit onto something you never expected to hit, it's just that much better. Losing yourself to the process can be very liberating as well as the feeling of creating a sense of hope after it was once lost.
