We have had a number of Pines die this past couple of years and their grouping made for a dramatically lit area in our woods. As the trees died they let more light through the canopy, and as they fell even more light came through and lit the angled trunks and downed branches. A once very vertical group of tree trunks became ever more angled and with greater contrast. The hole in the canopy created a spotlight effect on the growing pile of debris at the center of it all, and that in itself brought my eye to it.
