I watch this spot in our back yard where the evening sunlight breaks through a spot in the woods on the other side of the old driveway. As the seasons change, it moves and creates different patterns. I've watched it for the past year and finally started photographing and sketching it recently. This painting came about quickly, partly done from observation and partly from sketches. Photographs are just a starting point, as they are for lots of paintings, but the image is usually an amalgamation of them. It's painting after all, and the feeling of seeing this great little event is the goal.
