This is an ode to a dying pine tree. This magnificent tree caught my attention in the evening light while out on evening walks. For several weeks I looked forward to seeing this tree in the sunset light, the top lit with the yellow sunlight turning orange, then red. I finally went out with sketchbook in hand and drew it and when talking to the man who lives closest to the tree, one of his favorites, he said it was dying. I hadn't realized it. In that warm light you couldn't really see the brown creeping into the crown of the tree, but I felt glad to have known it while it was alive. I painted this as a remembrance, the top bathed in warm color, making you unsure of whether or not it was really starting to die.
