2024
We rode our bikes on the Virginia Creeper Trail a year ago and I took so many photos along the way. On the first day, We rode the upper half from Damascus and at one point, after crossing a trestle, I stopped and took some pictures of the creek with the afternoon light on the water. The idea that a year later that trestle would likely be wiped out by a hurricane was unthinkable. I felt compelled to re-examine my images saved from that ride and paint another view, as an homage to what was lost. This beautiful spot and that amazing trail were changed forever by Helene, but I'm curious to see what Nature has in store for that creek and area as it recovers.
